From renovation to innovation: Taylor debuts cutting-edge cystoscopy room
Corewell Health physicians, leadership and team members recently celebrated the completion of a significant cystoscopy room renovation project at Corewell Health Taylor Hospital.

The upgraded cystoscopy space has been expanded nearly 500 square feet and is now equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed to enhance patient care and provide the highest level of precision in urological procedures.
This includes the GE Uroview 8K and DICOM, or Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine, systems. The GE Uroview 8K Cysto system is a cutting-edge imaging system tailored for urological procedures, offering high-resolution 8K imaging for exceptional clarity and detail.
The system features an ergonomic design and dynamic workflow enhancements to improve efficiency, patient comfort and reduce recovery time. The new equipment integrates seamlessly with existing medical technologies, improving both operational efficiency and patient care throughout the treatment process.
“In addition to its clinical capabilities, this space reflects our commitment to innovation in health care, as well as our dedication to making sure our surgical teams have access to the best tools available,” said Muzammil Ahmed, M.D., chief of staff, Corewell Health Wayne Hospital. “We believe that a state-of-the-art environment directly contributes to better patient care and safety at our hospital.”
Another significant enhancement is the integration of DICOM standards, ensuring seamless compatibility with other medical imaging systems and facilitating efficient data management. DICOM is an international standard for storing, transmitting and managing medical images. It allows for easy sharing of high-quality images and videos with medical professionals across departments or even other health care facilities.

DICOM’s integration into the system ensures that patient images and records are automatically stored and categorized in their electronic health records, or EHR, streamlining the workflow and reducing the risk of human error. This leads to faster decision making and more focused care.
Participants at a Jan. 24 ribbon cutting for the space expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the planning and completion of the project. They also highlighted how the new, larger cystoscopy room will significantly enhance the quality of care provided to patients, enable the performance of new minimally invasive procedures using state-of-the-art equipment, and further the hospital’s commitment to utilizing the latest innovations in health care to improve the health of the community.
“This cystoscopy room represents not just a physical space, but the ongoing advancement of health care excellence and the unwavering dedication of our team,” said Kassem Charara, M.D., vice president of medical affairs, Taylor and Wayne hospital.
