Samuel T. Bauer, M.D., joins leadership of Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital

Samuel T. Bauer, M.D., MBA, FACHE, CPE, FACOG, has been named vice president of medical affairs for Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, effective Saturday, Aug. 31.

Dr. Bauer is a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialist and a nationally recognized leader in quality and safety, innovative health care models, and maternal health research. He brings more than a decade of health care leadership experience with a focus on digital health and innovation, clinical operations, and patient and provider experience.

A Kansas native, Dr. Bauer was born to a primary care physician father and a labor and delivery nurse mother. He attended high school at Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy before earning dual bachelor’s degrees in music and women’s studies from the University of Michigan. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and returned to Michigan for his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Bauer continued his training with a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He later returned to Michigan as an attending physician with the legacy Beaumont Health department of obstetrics and gynecology, in the maternal-fetal medicine division, where he served as physician executive of obstetrics and gynecology and chief of women’s clinical care programs. 

Most recently, Dr. Bauer was an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University, and medical director of Duke perinatal, quality, and digital health.

In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Bauer will also resume his practice in maternal-fetal medicine with Corewell Health.

Dr. Bauer is a certifying oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, holds Lean Six Sigma green belt certification, and serves on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists committee for clinical practice guidelines. He is married to Melissa Bauer, D.O., an accomplished obstetrical and critical care anesthesiologist and NIH-funded researcher. Together, they have two children and two dogs and cats. He enjoys cooking, skiing and supporting University of Michigan football.
