A feeling of isolation led Adam Blair to discover his life’s passion and a sense of purpose.
The health informatics specialist for Corewell Health’s clinical informatics system and co-chair of Healthy Pride, the system’s business resource group for LGBTQIA+ community members and allies, remembers often feeling alone at work nearly a decade ago.
“Even though everyone was friendly, I felt isolated as a member of the LGBTQ+ community,” he said. “I wanted a greater sense of purpose within the organization. I knew there were others but I didn’t know how to connect with them.”
Adam found his calling in community involvement when he joined the BRG as its social chair.
“I found a passion in outreach and making sure the community knows that our health system is friendly and you don’t have to be scared of it, but there are people to talk to if you are,” he said. “I also wanted to tell team members that we exist as a friendly organization and you don’t have to feel alone.”
Adam now oversees Corewell Health’s involvement and sponsorship of Ferndale Pride, Motor City Pride, Royal Oak Pride, also sponsoring Niles Pride, Grand Rapids Pride, Holland PRIDE and Pride Big Rapids, alongside metrics officer Zoey O’Brien, LGBTQIA+ patient navigator for Corewell Health. The BRG currently has more than 900 members.
“We accept everybody; you do not need to be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community,” Adam said. “Even though we are proud to be who we are, we also love and need the support of allies.”

“Pride events are welcoming and represent safety, celebration, acceptance, exploration and connection,” he added.
In his role with Corewell Health, Adam provides Epic support for East hospital cardiology, diabetes and endocrinology providers. He started his career as a certified nursing assistant, first at a nursing home and then at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital.
He worked in the neurology, orthopedic and trauma unit for several years before moving to the emergency department, where he worked as an emergency tech for seven years.
During this time, he was also earning his bachelor’s degree in health care administration at Mercy College of Ohio and piloting a patient satisfaction position. He transitioned into the Epic education team in February 2020 and after two years moved to his current role.
Adam lives in Redford with his husband, Scott, and their two pit bull mixes, Tyler and Pepper. He is passionate about his new metallic blue Jeep Wrangler and joining what is affectionately known as the “Jeepers,” as well as gardening with a focus on flowering plants. He especially loves to grow several varieties of lilies.
Adam is also a BeWell Ambassador and a solutions pillar lead for Corewell Health’s digital services DE&I committee.
