Beaumont reviewing workplace guidelines based on new MIOSHA rules

Yesterday, MIOSHA updated workplace emergency rules to reflect the recent order from MDHHS and guidance from the CDC. Beaumont Health is reviewing these new rules and will soon make any necessary updates to workplace guidelines based on the current MIOSHA rules to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

In the meantime, all Beaumont employees, patients and family members must still wear a mask when on our campuses. Beaumont also continues to promote vaccination. Please visit one of our vaccine clinics if you are unvaccinated and are interested in receiving a shot.

While the new guidelines are reviewed, employees working remotely will continue to do so. Beaumont is taking some time to study the next steps regarding the status of employees currently working remotely. A cross-functional taskforce comprised of employees from various departments will make recommendations to leadership soon on guidelines to follow regarding returning to the office full-time, hybrid or remote.

As a reminder, employees must complete the online health assessment before entering a Beaumont facility. For easy access to the assessment on your mobile device, visit Beaumont.org/clear in any internet browser to view your latest assessment or submit a new one for the day. If you have questions, please talk to your immediate supervisor.

COVID-19 vaccines: What’s next?

The first COVID-19 vaccine was given emergency use authorization by the FDA in December. Since then, millions of people worldwide have received a vaccine. You may wonder what’s on the horizon as the vaccines become more widely available and researchers continue to learn more about how they can help end the pandemic.

Nursing Residency Program receives national accreditation

We are excited to announce that the employee-based Nurse Residency Program at Beaumont Health is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing EducationIt is currently one of two programs in the state to hold this high-level recognition and one of the largest CCNE-accredited programs in the country.

“I am so proud of the work that has been done by our nursing leaders to make this happen,” said Susan Grant, chief nursing officer. “This accreditation validates the rigor and educational content of our program, which helps new nurses successfully transition from being a student into nursing practice, while enhancing the overall nursing excellence at Beaumont.”

The Nurse Residency Program enrolls all Beaumont nurses who graduated from a nursing program in the past 12 months. During their first year of practice, our nurses focus on different areas, including enhancing critical thinking, quality, safety and more. Nurses are informed about the program from Human Resources when they interview.

The current program was created in 2018 based on best practices of other programs around the country. It helps nurses transition from being students into the clinical setting, while improving retention of nurses within the first two years of their clinical practice as RNs.

“I am honored to be at the forefront of giving our nurses a voice in practice, as we help them transition to the practice environment, which has many challenges for a new nurse to navigate,” said Tonie Trevino, director, Nurse Residency Program. “I want them to know that it isn’t a journey they have to take alone, and it is one where, as a team, we can help them succeed. The CCNE accreditation status stands as a testament to our ongoing efforts and all of our hard work as an organization to provide ample resources for our newest nurses.”

The CCNE did a site visit in October, and the program will maintain accreditation for five years.

Susan, Tonie, Andrea Carr, associate chief nursing officer, and the Nurse Residency Advisory Board, which includes nurse resident alumni, preceptors, managers, educators, CNOs, physicians, Dean Judy Didion from Oakland University and Dean Susan Shunkwiler from Henry Ford College were all instrumental in this process.
