May 19 - COVID-19 Daily Update

Shuttle service to the BSC vaccine clinic discontinuing, Calling a medical alert for airway management services, Mobile Heartbeat update coming tomorrow, Beaumont Outpatient Campus Lenox opening in August

Calling a medical alert for airway management services

Effective Monday, May 24, Beaumont Health will begin using a plain language medical alert when emergency help is needed from Anesthesia or other providers at some campuses (such as house physicians) for airway management, airway support or intubation. Using plain language helps promote the safety of patients, reduces variation for practitioners or staff who work in more than one facility and aligns with national safety recommendations.

How to call for a medical alert Airway Management (formerly Anesthesia Stat) assistance.

  1. Call your site’s emergency phone number to contact the operator. Calling the operator must be the first and primary tool for calling for a STAT emergency response.
    1. 555 for Beaumont, Grosse, Pointe, Royal Oak and Troy
    2. 888 for Beaumont, Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne
    3. 521-8333 for Beaumont, Farmington Hills
    4. Note:  Do not dial zero or your call will go into a queue that is not answered or processed as quickly for STAT calls.
  2. Ask for Airway Management Stat and provide the unit and room number (detailed location of emergency)
  3. The operator will announce Medical Alert, Airway Management Stat and the unit and room number overhead. The operator will also page the response team.
  4. For all sites (except Dearborn and Farmington Hills), currently using Mobile Heartbeat in the medical alert workflow, initiate a quick broadcast message Medical Alert, Airway Management Stat, and provide unit and room number.
  5. Note: Mobile Heartbeat does not replace the immediate contact to operator and the overhead announcement.  It is only used as a supplemental tool for communication.

More information about changes regarding this medical alert is being shared with operators, through Nursing orientation and an IT bulletin to all Mobile Heartbeat users. In addition, a laminated card with information about how to call for medical alert Airway Management assistance will be available soon.

Over the course of several days, team members using shared devices will receive prompts to accept the updated version of the app. By accepting the prompt, the app will update, and you will be logged out. Log back in once complete.

Those who use Mobile Heartbeat directly on their own personal device will see a new version of the MH-Cure White app available in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Be sure to update your app when available and follow best practices.

Anyone who still has the Hub on their personal device can follow the instructions to remove the Hub and download MH-Cure White directly to your phone.

If you have any questions or issues, please contact the Service Desk at 888-481-2448.

Shuttle service to the BSC vaccine clinic discontinuing

To support Beaumont Health employees interested in receiving their COVID-19 vaccination, free shuttles have been available since early April to transport employees to and from Beaumont acute care campuses to the Beaumont Service Center vaccine clinic.

However, due to the low demand for transportation and the availability for employees to receive the vaccine at the Dearborn and Troy vaccine clinics, the shuttle services to the BSC vaccine clinic are being discontinued effective Thursday, May 20.

If you or a Beaumont team member need transportation from a Beaumont facility to the BSC vaccine clinic to get a shot, contact Morris Cotton, senior system director of Security, for assistance.
