Bwell offering Mental Health Mondays webinar series in May
No two of us experience situations and emotions the same way. With a multitude of diverse backgrounds, values and opinions that contribute to our mental health and emotional well-being, what may be a run-of-the-mill event for one person may be a stressor or trigger point for another.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In recognition, Beaumont, Dearborn’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee partnered with Bwell, the Beaumont Center for Mindfulness and Ulliance to offer live, 30-minute webinars on the importance of mental health and providing practical tools for enhancing well-being. The webinars will take place on Mondays, May 10, 17 and 24 at 11:30 a.m.
Topics include:
- concepts that help manage diverse thoughts and perceptions, recognize signs of stress, enhance respectful communication, and provide in-the-moment support and resources
- ·nutrition tips focused to help lessen stress
- the impact a mindfulness practice can have on mental health
The amount of stress we are experiencing during the ongoing pandemic is unprecedented. It’s important to continue to normalize the variety of emotions many of us feel and destigmatize mental health issues, so those in need feel comfortable seeking support and resources.
There has never been a more opportune time for all Beaumont team members to be curious and open to new ideas and ways we can be inclusive and supportive of one another. Connecting with others, seeking to understand varying viewpoints around emotions and mental health and investing quality time in our personal self-care may benefit and boost the well-being of you and your teammates.

Hand hygiene is more important than ever
Today, May 5, is recognized as World Hand Hygiene Day by the World Health Organization, and this year’s theme is “Seconds Save Lives – Clean Your Hands!”
Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of pathogens and prevent infections, including COVID-19. Technique and timing are pivotal; 20 seconds is recommended whether you are using soap and water or an alcohol-based solution. Also, make sure not to miss important areas such as your fingertips and thumbs.
During this latest COVID-19 surge (and every day), it’s important to remember the basics. Here are five key moments for hand hygiene at the point of care you won’t want to miss on your shift:
- before touching a patient
- before clean/aseptic procedure
- after bodily fluid exposure
- after touching a patient
- after touching patient surroundings
As health care workers, it’s crucial that we wash our hands at the right time and in the right way. Together, we can ensure infection prevention and maintain the safety of our patients and colleagues as we continue to deliver extraordinary care throughout our workday.
