Enjoy a ‘thank you’ with a free meal; Beaumont hosting medication take-back events on April 23 & 24; Beaker transition deemed an early success
Enjoy a ‘thank you’ with a free meal
This week, and for the next four weeks, food deliveries will occur at every Beaumont Health acute care campus. Beaumont, Dearborn kicked off the free meals today with Chicken Shack and Wahlburgers.
These meals serve as a thank you to our health care heroes, who met three COVID-19 surges head on and with heart. So, pencil in some time for you and your work group, to take advantage of this small gesture of thanks. View the schedule for dates and times for each campus.
Please note: Only one meal is allowed per employee per day. Beverages are not included. Check with your manager about meal distribution to make sure there is a plan in place for your department.

Beaker transition deemed an early success
Beaker, the standard Laboratory Information System platform, went live on Sunday, April 11, at Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne. All sites are now using the same lab system.
The transition has been smooth this week. Staff reports being prepared, onsite support staff are knowledgeable and support call center volumes have been lower than anticipated. While issues have been uncovered, IT has worked quickly in partnership with leaders and staff to resolve. Additionally, OR, Endoscopy, OB, Mammography and Interventional Radiology departments at all Beaumont acute-care campuses now use the new specimen navigator functionality.
Some comments heard so far:
- “Receiving is much easier for STAT lab.” – Dearborn
- “This is a better system now allowing for less user error. Everything’s easier. The system is fantastic.” – Taylor
- “New staff coming in are amazed at how easy receiving is. They discuss at length how much time they used to spend just documenting specimens coming into the lab. Also, collections are happening without a hitch and labels printing as they should.” – Trenton
- “Techs and phlebotomists have been saying how easy Epic/oneChart is. Two phlebs said that they saved 1.5 hours in processing time and an hour with collections because oneChart is so easy and efficient.” – Wayne
