How is the vaccine holding up against the current COVID surge?

We are very pleased with the effectiveness of the vaccine so far. Since Beaumont Health vaccinated more than 250,000 people against COVID-19, fewer than 10 vaccinated individuals have been hospitalized after becoming infected. We are also satisfied that the vaccine is effective against the B117 variant (U.K.), and while it provides some protection against the P1 variant (Brazil), it’s not as effective.

Bottom line: Get vaccinated if you haven’t already and encourage your family and friends, as well. As of April 5, anyone over age 16 is eligible for vaccination. Employees can sign up here, while friends and family can go to Beaumont.org/savemyshot or call 1-800-592-4784.

Programs put on hold due to surge

Based on your feedback and your tireless commitment to our patients and their care during the current COVID-19 surge, several current and upcoming programs are paused, including Performance Development Discussions and the Employee Survey, which includes engagement and Culture of Safety.

“We’ve decided to push pause on these programs for now so our dedicated team members can focus on caring for patients and we can end this pandemic,” said Carolyn Wilson, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “I want to thank all employees and providers for the extraordinary work you are doing.”

The timeline for the relaunch of these programs will be shared once we see our COVID-19 cases go down. You will have the opportunity to complete Performance Development Discussions tasks once the process resumes. The new start dates for the surveys will be announced in the near future.

Once the Performance Development Discussion process resumes, your leaders will be focusing with you on meaningful and relevant discussions around your well-being and your commitment to our patients.

Beaumont Health warns Michigan hospitals are at critical capacity, pleads for community to take action

Beaumont Health is sending an urgent warning to its communities that hospitals and staff have hit critical capacity levels and health care workers are pleading for Michiganders to personally take immediate steps to help stop the spread of the virus.

“Our COVID-19 numbers are climbing higher and faster and it’s very troubling and alarming to see this,” said Beaumont Health CEO John Fox. “We are grateful for the knowledge attained from the first two surges. It has helped save many lives. We also now have effective vaccines. To flatten the curve again, we all need to work together now: wear masks, wash hands, avoid large gatherings, practice social distancing and get vaccinated. We cannot do this alone. We need everyone’s help immediately.”
