Beaumont and Universal Health Services (UHS) have formed a joint venture to address the growing, unmet need for accessible, high-quality mental health services and facilities for the communities we serve.
Construction will begin in early 2019 on a ninth Beaumont Hospital: A 150-bed, freestanding hospital located in Dearborn, on eight acres of vacant land on Oakwood Boulevard, near the Southfield Freeway.
WHY A NINTH HOSPITAL?
Mental health care is at the forefront of societal concerns. Nearly one in five Americans, or 43.8 million adults, has a diagnosable mental health condition and suicide rates continue to climb. The need for mental health services has outpaced our ability to meet the demand.
WHO IS UHS?
UHS is one of the largest mental health hospital management companies in the nation, operating more than 200 behavioral health facilities and acute-care hospitals in the U.S. UHS will oversee the day-to-day operations and management of the new facility, which will have its own medical staff. All Beaumont physicians can apply for privileges.
The joint venture features a three-part approach to mental health:
• Beaumont’s ninth hospital – a 100,000-square-foot, 150-bed hospital that doubles Beaumont’s current capacity for inpatient mental health care
• commitment to highly specialized academic training programs, such as Beaumont GME programs, including a residency program for psychiatric care
• enhanced and expanded intensive day programs and outpatient care
