Physician Profile: Dr. Glines

Dr. Glines: A proven leader

Craig Glines, D.O., is a leader. He has served in leadership roles for nearly the entirety of his career. When Beaumont merged with Botsford Hospital and Oakwood Health System in 2014, Dr. Glines was named director of Medical Education at Beaumont, Farmington Hills, in addition to remaining the DME and OB-GYN residency director at Beaumont, Trenton. In this capacity, he oversees nearly 250 residents across 28 programs and continues to practice as an OB hospitalist at Beaumont, Trenton. He graduated from the Beaumont Physician Leadership Academy in 2017.

In May, he will be sworn in at the 118th president of the Michigan Osteopathic Association at a House of Delegates meeting. During his term, he will focus on enhancing residency opportunities and streamlining requirements to maintain licensing. Before this appointment, Dr. Glines served as treasurer of the association. At the end of November, Dr. Glines was reappointed to the state medical licensing board by Gov. Snyder. He will serve in that position for the next four years.

Dr. Glines also serves on several other national and statewide organizations and was an officer for 13 years in the Army Nation Guard and Army Reserve Medical Corps. He is the only Beaumont residency director who serves on an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Residency Review Committee. He is on several committees at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, including chair of the Statewide Campus System Governing Board and served as an advisor on the New Dean Selection Committee. Dr. Glines continues to enjoy lecturing as a visiting professor at the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Glines has been practicing obstetrics & gynecology for nearly 25 years and, above all, sees his time with Beaumont as his most noteworthy contribution to the field. Working with residents and converting all osteopathic residency programs to ACGME standards have proved to be the most rewarding.

Although Dr. Glines is grateful to have worked with multiple hospital administrations, associations and governing bodies, his top priority will always be the patient. He treats the patient as a member of his own family and shares advice with his residents.

“Listen to the patient,” he said. “You need to realize they don’t want to be there. They have an issue, and they need our help.”

Dr. Glines practices this with many first-time pregnant women and embodies Beaumont’s commitment to patient and family-centered care.

“It’s always better to get a family member involved as quickly as possible,” Dr. Glines said. “[The patient] handles the situation much better when they have a support system.”

While not in the office, Dr. Glines enjoys traveling with his wife, Lisa, who is an alumni director at a high school. Together, they have two sons. His oldest son, John, works in finance in Detroit, and his youngest son, Ben, is an ER resident at Beaumont, Farmington Hills.

He is also loves pheasant hunting, skeet shooting and has been playing hockey his entire life. Dr. Glines is one of the rare Michiganders with a degree from both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. When it comes to sports, he roots for both Spartans and Wolverines.

If not a life of medicine, he would have pursued business or law enforcement.

“I have that analytical mind,” Dr. Glines said. “I love law and order and figuring out whodunit.”

We would like to thank Dr. Glines for his dedication to patients as well as representing Beaumont on a national and state-wide level.
