Dr. Haladjian: Freeing patients of addiction
Razmig Haladjian, M.D., a native of Beirut, Lebanon and a graduate of the American University of Beirut School of Medicine, completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He performed his fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
He employs a multi-disciplinary approach in solving patients’ often complex, chronic pain issues and places a strong emphasis in cutting-edge interventional procedures to successfully treat patients’
conditions. Pain management is a challenging specialty, according to Dr. Haladjian. Often, multiple modes of treatment are utilized to address a patient’s pain conditions, including both physical and psychological care.
Dr. Haladjian has special interest and expertise in treating spinal conditions such as compression fractures and spinal stenosis. Through his extensive training and his years of experience as a pain management physician, Dr. Haladjian has mastered techniques ranging from simple spinal interventions such as epidurals and facet blocks to more advanced procedures such as kyphoplasties, spinal cord stimulations and minimally invasive spine surgeries.
While he spends valuable time with his patients, Dr. Haladjian places an extreme importance on listening to them. This not only comforts the patient but also allows Dr. Haladjian to better understand the clinical aspects of a patient’s ailment. In fact, Dr. Haladjian believes that young physicians who are new to the field should learn to be kindhearted and offer a compassionate approach to a patient’s treatment plan.
During his early years of practice, Dr. Haladjian identified that pain medication dependence was so prevalent, so he completed additional training in addiction medicine to help these patients. Freeing patients of their addictions makes it all worth it.
“It helps the patients, their children, families and communities as a whole,” Dr. Haladjian said. “It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve done.”
Dr. Haladjian adamantly believes the best things for young physicians to learn is to be compassionate and listen to all patients. At the same time, physicians should always be growing and increasing their skillset.
“Keep improving yourself and never think that you know everything,” Dr. Haladjian said.
The medical landscape is always changing, and Dr. Haladjian feels that navigating the changes in both medicine and insurance policies can bring its own challenges. However, he feels that by continuing to improve his skills and incorporating academics into his studies, he will grow, adapt and advance along with the changing times.
“I want to be able to say that I did my best helping patients; that I treated every single patient to the best of my ability without any judgments,” he said.
Dr. Haladjian practices at the Michigan Interventional Pain Center in Brownstown Township. While away from the office, Dr. Haladjian can be found on the golf course. He also enjoys eating out in downtown Detroit, working out and travelling with his wife, Carla, and their three girls, Isabella, Liliana and Vanessa.
