We were recently granted an award from Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute for our pragmatic, randomized controlled trial EMPallA. This multi-site comparative effectiveness trial will measure the effects of nurse-led telephonic palliative care versus facilitated outpatient palliative care on quality of life, healthcare utilization, loneliness and symptom burden. Caregivers will also be enrolled and assessed on caregiver strain, quality of life and bereavement. To learn more, please read this letter from Robert Sword, D.O., director of Emergency Research.
