On behalf of the Department of Defense office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, the application submission by Kevin Baker, Ph.D. was recommended for funding. The title of the grant is Mitigation of Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis via Augmented Immunomodulation of Endogenous Marrow-Derived Stem Cells.
Specifically, this grant will focus both on how endogenous, marrow-derived stem cells are called into action following ACL injury and how we can boost the immune-modulating properties of these cells via intra-articular delivery of the tryptophan-metabolizing enzyme indoleamine-2, 3-dioxygenase or IDO. This project will not only probe the role of the immune system in the onset and resolution of PTOA, but it will also provide new training opportunities for our residents, fellows and OUWB medical students.
Congratulations, Dr. Baker.
