Effective January 1 of this year for all accreditation programs, any observation by surveyors of individual failure to perform hand hygiene in the process of direct patient care will be cited as a deficiency resulting in a Requirement for Improvement.
According to the CDC, nearly two million healthcare-associated infections occur across the U.S. each year. Many of these infections are transmitted by healthcare personnel. Let us all be cautious of hand hygiene and committed to preventing HAIs.
