Beaumont opens its first Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic

Beaumont is proud to announce the opening of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic.  The goal of the new clinic is to provide a multidisciplinary, patient-centered platform for a broad category of lung diseases that causes diffuse inflammation or scarring in the lungs.

Typically, ILD patients present with dyspnea, cough, hypoxemia or abnormal chest imaging studies. Diagnosis and treatment of this complex group of disorders requires a comprehensive step-wise decision making by a multidisciplinary team. Each condition is individualized based on the underlying problems and each patient’s unique clinical and radiographical findings.

The program features a team of specialists comprising of pulmonologists, chest radiologists, chest pathologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pulmonary rehabilitation specialists and patient care-coordinators. The team’s approach is expected to achieve the allied goals of improved accuracy of diagnosis in these intrinsically complex disorders, and comprehensive care planning to improve quality of life and avoid readmissions.

ILD involves a heterogeneous group of over 150 rare diseases, including:

  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
  • Nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis
  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Eosinophilic pneumonias
  • Drug induced lung diseases
  • Pneumoconiosis
  • Connective tissue associated lung diseases
  • Pulmonary Alveolar proteinosis
  • Lymphangioleiomatosis

 

To refer a patient, call the clinic at 248-551-0497 to schedule an appointment. During your patient’s care, you will communicate directly with a nurse navigator/nodal sender to keep you updated with his or her condition and treatment plan.
