Changes to onboarding process for independent physicians/APPs

The following is a memo regarding changes in the independent provider onboarding process.

An important part of Corewell Health’s mission is to improve the health of our patients. To achieve this, we need the right health care providers available at the right time. By aligning best practices and coordinating our teams, we can help independent providers be prepared to care for patients as soon as they join our medical staff.

With this end in mind, we will launch a redesigned independent provider onboarding experience that is consistent across our three regions on Sunday, July 21. The redesigned process was created in collaboration with key stakeholders across regions and functions, including our physician leaders, medical staff offices and many more.

Recently, we successfully launched this process for both employed and independent providers in the East region, and opportunities are being documented continuously for future implementation.

We have expanded the services of an existing provider onboarding support team to a systemwide scope that will report to Stephanie Ostrander in human resources. This team will work collaboratively with providers, digital services, the CVO/MSO, physician liaisons and other key stakeholders to help fully integrate providers into Corewell Health. They will make sure providers in all regions statewide have consistent information and experiences.

By redesigning and standardizing onboarding processes, our goal is to provide a great experience for our incoming providers, helping form long-lasting relationships between them and our health system. We are also confident this will improve patient experience and reduce the administrative toll on support teams preparing providers to join Corewell Health.

Thank you to all the teams across the state who have been involved in this project, understand the importance of collaboration, and are eager to move this effort forward.

Looking ahead, we plan to further develop our governance structure to oversee changes and work is underway to standardize the employed provider onboarding experience.

System onboarding is a work in progress and there will be challenges along the way. Thank you in advance for your patience and grace as we work together to make this process simpler and better for our patients, providers and teams who support onboarding.
