From resident to department chair, Dr. Adrienne Stanley grows family and career

Adrienne Stanley, D.O., first came to the legacy Botsford Hospital, now  Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, as a resident in the OB-GYN department. Little did she know that not only would she have her own baby in that very department, but she would later become department chair.

Today she leads a team of dedicated physicians, nurses and other team members in the newly renovated Family Birth Center. “We all work great together as a team,” she said.

Dr. Stanley finds her picture in the 2003 resident class photo that hangs at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital.

“People have always been attracted to our labor and delivery unit because we're a smaller unit, and you get really great one-to-one care,” she said. Even though they see many high-risk patients, “We have a low C-section rate and we're so proud of that.”

After graduating from the residency program, Dr. Stanley moved to Chicago to start her practice, and there she had her first child. Two years later, with baby number two on the way, she and her growing family moved back to Michigan.

She rejoined the department, just after a renovation. “It was great! Everyone loved the refresh.” A very pregnant Dr. Stanley even posed for publicity photos.

In 2020 she was named department chair and has been working with the team on a new major refresh. Phase one is now complete (see below).

“The renovated space will be much more attractive to both physicians and expecting families,” she said. The hospital is one of seven Corewell Health hospitals ranked as High Performing for maternity care (uncomplicated pregnancy) by  U.S. News & World Report.

By sheer coincidence, Marina DuBois, RN, a nurse on the unit, who is pregnant, will be featured in the marketing for the renovated unit, just like Dr. Stanley was after the last renovation.

For now, Dr. Stanley is looking forward to growing the department, bringing in more physicians, more patients and more volume to the hospital, while continuing to deliver “really great one-to-one care.”
