Important physician leadership announcements
A message from Lamont Yoder, RN, President, Corewell Health East
Team,
After an extensive nationwide search, I am thrilled to share Peter Charvat, M.D., will be our next Corewell Health East chief medical officer, effective Monday, Nov. 4. Thank you to all the physicians, team members and leaders who participated in the interview process.
Dr. Charvat joins us from the Bon Secours health system where he currently serves as its chief clinical officer for the system’s Richmond, Virginia market. In that role, he built programs and teams designed to standardize quality, grow service lines, reduce length of stay and expand the medical group.
Throughout his career, Dr. Charvat has held physician leadership positions, including chief medical officer, and brings experience from health systems in Florida, North Carolina and Minnesota, where he focused on quality, safety and optimization of throughput and utilization. He is a firm believer in the importance of research and graduate medical education and is eager to help us strengthen our innovative research and world class education programs.
Dr. Charvat is board certified in emergency medicine and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and his master’s degree in health administration from the University of Colorado Denver.
He asked me to share this brief message with you:
“I am thrilled and honored to join Corewell Health East, and I’m looking forward to becoming part of the Southeast Michigan physician community. My goal is to help create the most supportive, high-quality environment where physicians can thrive. I’m confident that if we become the best place in the state to practice medicine, we’ll also become the best place for patients to receive care.”
Additionally, I’d like to thank Jesse Selber, M.D., for doing an excellent job serving as our interim Chief Medical Officer and I’d like to share some exciting news about his professional advancement. Dr. Selber has been promoted to Vice President Service Line Strategy and Growth for Corewell Health East and he will remain a member of the East Region’s Executive Leadership Team. In this new role, he will continue leading the surgical service line and will also work with both our medical group and independent physicians to develop and implement the service line strategic plan for the East region. Dr. Selber has been a tremendous advocate for our physicians and I’m excited for what he will help us achieve in this new, critically important role.
We are so fortunate to have strong physician leadership to help guide us forward. I could not be happier to have both talented leaders on our team. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Selber and welcoming Dr. Charvat to Corewell Health East!
