Bhavin Dalal, M.D., said he is “honored and humbled” to receive the prestigious ASP Eric G. Neilson, MD, Leadership in Specialty Internal Medicine Award for 2024.
This honor, granted by the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, recognizes a leader who has shaped the internal medicine specialties landscape.
“This award validates the countless hours of hard work, dedication, and passion I have poured into the clinical practice, clinical research, and most importantly, medical education for the last three decades,” Dr. Dalal said in his acceptance speech.
Dr. Dalal specializes in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. He’s been practicing for nearly 30 years and is affiliated with Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital and Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. He is currently the pulmonary disease and critical care medicine fellowship program director and is an associate professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Dr. Dalal was honored with the Eric G. Neilson Award during Academic Internal Medicine Week 2024, held recently in Columbus, Ohio. According to the alliance’s website, recipients have led their specialty in the areas of education research administration, faculty career development, and/or advocacy of internal medicine specialists.
“This kind of achievement fuels my motivation to continue pushing boundaries, exploring new avenues, and making really meaningful contributions to medical education,” he said. “As an awardee, I'm lifelong committed to mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, perpetuating a cycle of growth.”
In accepting the award, he thanked many team members including his section chief, Paul Bozyk, M.D., past and current leaders including Sandor Shoichet, M.D., and Chris Carpenter, M.D., along with his parents, wife and kids.
