Dear Colleagues, 

I am writing with an important update about anesthesia services here at Corewell Health East.

As you know, there was an effort to bring our anesthesiologists and CRNAs under our employment. This predated my taking on the interim president role. As I came into the role, I had the immediate opportunity to meet with many on our perioperative care teams.

I learned NorthStar Anesthesia is considered a good employer and the main issues causing angst in our ORs surrounding anesthesia care (amongst the anesthesia team and our surgeons) had more to do with the contractual terms of our agreement with NorthStar than anything else.

Our leadership team, along with many on the anesthesia team, did a deep dive into what would make us most successful going forward while also allowing us to attract and retain the best anesthesiologists and CRNAs. Out of this work, we recognized the best course of action was to craft a new contract with NorthStar Anesthesia that positioned us more as partners in this vital work. 

I’m happy to say we have signed a letter of intent with NorthStar with the goal of a final contract in the coming weeks. With this agreement, not only will our anesthesia services be uninterrupted come January 1, 2024, but we are also confident they will be even better.
