Corewell Health Medical Group East president selected

Costa Andreou, M.D., FACC, MBA, FACHE, will be joining Corewell Health Medical Group East as its new president on Sept. 30. In this role, Dr. Andreou will report to Corewell Health East President Lamont Yoder, RN, and co-lead the medical group with Josh Halverson, chief operating officer of Corewell Health Medical Group East.

Dr. Andreou will implement clinical initiatives that support quality improvement and program management. He will also develop new value-based care initiatives and oversee strategic planning, culture building, financial performance and physician and APP recruitment and engagement.

“Dr. Andreou’s extensive experience and strong track record of leading physicians made him an ideal candidate. We can’t wait for him to get started,” said Yoder. “I’d like to thank the many physicians and team members who assisted in the interview process as we conducted our national search. Their input was invaluable.”

“I firmly believe in physician leadership as a cornerstone of success for medical groups, particularly in a dynamic and challenging health care environment where the needs of our patients can continue to be our first priority,” Dr. Andreou said. “I am honored to join the Corewell Health team and have been so impressed by all the physicians and team members I have met so far. Also, I’m looking forward to joining the Southeast Michigan community.”

He most recently served as president of The Christ Hospital Physicians and network Chief Clinical Officer at the Christ Hospital Health Network in Ohio. In that role, Dr. Andreou oversaw the medical group physicians who worked in more than 100 locations. He implemented a formal physician governance structure, grew the medical group and increased the number of patient visits. He has previously served in numerous hospital and practice leadership roles, including acute care service line leadership and chief medical officer roles at Caromont Health in North Carolina.

“I am thrilled to work with Dr. Andreou to strengthen and grow our medical group. He has experience that is very relevant and transferable to CHMGE. He has many ideas to involve and further develop our physician leaders and he has a lot of energy. I think our clinical team will truly enjoy working with him,” Halverson said.

Dr. Andreou is a native of South Africa. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) degrees from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Bassett Healthcare, his fellowships in Cardiology (general and cardiomyopathy), at Boston University Medical Center and Interventional Cardiology from The University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He earned his Master of Business Administration and a Certificate in Health Sector Management from Duke University. He continues to practice clinical cardiology on a part time inpatient basis.
