Three physicians appointed to BH board of directors
Beaumont Health’s board of directors, ratified the appointment of three physicians to the board: Dr. Abed Asfour, Dr. Ashok B. Jain and Dr. Robert Welsh. As a result, Beaumont’s 16-member board will now increase to 19 directors, six of whom are physicians.
We are pleased to welcome these distinguished physicians to the board. You may recall that earlier this year, the board made a commitment to increase physician representation on the board.
Dr. Asfour is vice chief of staff at Beaumont Hospital, Trenton, as well as Cardiology section chief and director of Interventional Cardiology. He is also clinical assistant professor of medicine at Wayne State University. He has spent his entire career dedicated to Southeast Michigan and lives in Dearborn.
Dr. Jain is the chief medical officer at Beaumont Hospital, Wayne. In addition to having decades of experience in medical leadership roles, he also extensive experience serving on other boards. He has also spent his career in Michigan and resides in Bloomfield Hills.
Dr. Welsh is physician executive for surgical specialty with the Beaumont Medical Group. In addition, he is also a renowned thoracic surgeon and an associate professor at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He lives in Lake Angelus.
A total of 15 physicians were nominated within this process, and we went through a comprehensive review process that ultimately led us to select these three esteemed physicians. The overall vetting process was rigorous using blinded scores to determine the top candidates. Governance experience was a factor in overall selection.
Beaumont’s board of directors has governing authority and responsibility for the operation of the organization. Beaumont’s governance structure also includes 10 board committees. The process will begin soon to select other physicians nominated to serve on various Board Committees.
You may know that all of our board members volunteer their time and talent to support Beaumont in advancing our Mission of providing compassionate, extraordinary care every day to the communities we serve. We are pleased to have additional physician representation on our board. Their views and experience will help shape the direction of the organization. I look forward to this new dynamic.
