Engage: Relationships + Families + Spirituality + Medicine + Health

Welcome to the 24th Annual Beaumont Health Medical Staff Symposium. We look forward to gathering at Boyne Mountain to make new friendships and to reconnect with our colleagues in a beautiful, informal setting. In the spirit of stepping away from our routines and connecting with colleagues and friends, the unifying theme of the Symposium this year is “Engage.”

The pathway through the turbulence of a career in medicine has to be through personal connections. We have phenomenal speakers this year and you will hear about the fulfilling importance of engaging with your family, religion, colleagues and patients.

We are thankful to welcome back a few of our most well received speakers from previous years. Barry Franklin, Ph.D., has been studying leaders for thirty years, his prior lectures on leadership and superachievers have been life changing for many past participants. Deirdre Pitts, Ph.D., from Oakland University William Beaumont (OUWB) School of Medicine gave an impassioned and energetic talk last year.and will deliver a highly interactive (and Michigan medical license requirement) session on implicit bias. You will find inspiration (and please invite your family) from Dr. Richard Keidan’s journey in establishing Detroit2Nepal, a nonprofit aimed at improving public health, health care and education opportunities for children in remote Himalayan villages and in the greater Detroit area.

We are honored to have Tina Freese Decker, the new Beaumont Health Spectrum Health CEO, participate in this year’s conference. She has shown an unwavering desire for full engagement in the few months since the merger was announced and we hope to make this an annual must for her.

Thank you for attending and sharing your time and families with all of us.

Joe Love, M.D.
