Physician Profile: Dr. Dudar

Portrait of Basil Dudar, M.D.Focusing on what’s important

Basil Dudar, M.D. is a cardiologist who has been with Beaumont since 2010. He graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the Medical University of Ohio and completed his residency at Case Western University, followed by a cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship in Detroit at Henry Ford. Shortly after, Dr. Dudar was recruited to the Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe to be the medical director of the cardiac catherization laboratory. He was part of the team that ultimately obtained state privileges to perform percutaneous coronary intervention at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe.

This field has given Dr. Dudar medical experiences that have shaped the way he provides care. While performing life-saving procedures on critically ill patients attracted him to this field, developing long-term relationships with patients and their families has proven to be even more rewarding.

“In a constantly evolving field, it is critical to stay up-to-date on the latest clinical trials as well as state-of-the-art procedures that ensures best patient safety and care,” Dr. Dudar said. “I've had the privilege of partaking in training of many residents and fellows. That has further enriched my career.”

It is his philosophy that patients need to be actively involved in the decision-making process. He puts a priority on ensuring they have a grasp of their medical issues, which then empowers them to make informed choices. When doctors and patients are aligned, quality improves.

“The internet provides an abundance of information to patients, but one-on-one communication is still the most important tool we possess,” Dr. Dudar said. “Patients are now more involved in their care, and that is beneficial on both sides.”
Although retirement is not in the near future, Dr. Dudar has gained a lot of insight along the way.

“While medicine affords you a rewarding career in which you have hopefully helped many people, it's critical to stay well rounded by spending quality time with your family, children and maintaining your own interests outside of work,” Dr. Dudar said.
When he is not in the office with patients, one could find him on the golf course, in the gym or running. In a land of Spartans and Wolverines, Dr. Dudar is an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Dr. Dudar’s parents and countless mentors throughout his career taught him the importance of hard work, honesty and integrity, which he carries with him every day. He and his wife Mais enjoy outdoor activities and traveling with their children Yasmeen, Ramsey and Mia.
