For Providers

Physician ratings and reviews on beaumont.org

Beaumont will be transitioning to a model of transparency by publishing patient experience star ratings and comments through Find a Doctor on beaumont.org.

More than ever, patients are turning to online provider ratings when deciding where and from whom they should seek care. Many of you may already have reviews on public websites, such as Healthgrades, Yelp, Vitals, Google+ and RateMDs. Often those ratings are based on a limited number of reviews, so the results can be misleading to consumers and inaccurately represent the quality of care. To take control of the online conversation and ensure the validity of physician review data, top-performing organizations across the country have implemented processes to first share provider ratings and comments internally, then publish patient-reported feedback on their external websites.

To ensure we are providing our patients with valid and current ratings and reviews, Beaumont will be transitioning to a model of transparency by publishing patient experience star ratings and comments through Find a Doctor on beaumont.org. Providing easy, public access to robust patient experience data drives accountability, builds market share and provides a level of transparency that results in:

  • community trust and enhanced understanding of the quality of care providers deliver
  • increased web traffic and visibility of medical staff in the market, increased patient acquisition
  • increased levels of patient engagement, trust and loyalty
  • improved performance

As part of this process, all comments will be reviewed before they are posted in order to suppress comments containing PHI and other confidential or inappropriate information. Star ratings and comments will only be available for providers reaching a minimum of 30 survey returns. Ambulatory BMG physicians will be included with the initial rollout, scheduled for the first quarter of 2018, and our plans are to extend this offering to independent ambulatory physicians later next year.

Different from other scorecards which use percentile rankings, these consumer-facing ratings are calculated using raw survey scores and converted into a one- to five-star ratings. Based on an initial analysis, BMG physician ratings range between 4.3 and 5.0 stars.
