June 7 - Daily Update

Beaumont Health reached Milestone

This weekend, Beaumont Health hit a huge milestone — the first time we’ve averaged below 100 COVID-19 inpatients in nearly a year! With 96 positive or suspected cases in the health system, it was the lowest number we’ve seen since the 4th of July weekend in 2020, when we reached 82 on July 4 and 96 on July 5.

“With this new record low for the year, we have put the third surge behind us,” said Dr. Nick Gilpin, Beaumont’s medial director of Infection Prevention and Epidemiology. “This is a testament to our vaccination efforts, preventive measures and extraordinary patient care. While we should absolutely celebrate this accomplishment, now is not the time to let our guard down. Please continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination, masking and social distancing.”

Blood supply extremely low — schedule your appointment to donate today

A severe shortage of blood across the country, including at Beaumont Health, could have significant impact on patient care, including surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses and traumatic injuries.

Here’s what you can do: Please schedule your appointment to donate as soon as possible to help ensure there is enough blood for those who need it most.

“To continue providing compassionate and extraordinary care to our patients, we are working diligently with blood suppliers to stabilize and increase the supply of blood. The effort is expected to take several weeks,” Carolyn Wilson, RN, executive vice president and chief operating officer, said. “We are asking our Beaumont health care heroes to donate their own blood to help our communities. And, we’re also asking the public to support this effort by donating their own blood, too.”

You can help our community by donating at a Versiti blood drive hosted at our acute care campuses this month. Versiti is Beaumont’s exclusive provider of blood products.

The donation process usually takes one hour, including registration, a brief medical screening and blood collection. Donors must show a photo ID such as a driver’s license. Versiti takes extra precautions to thoroughly disinfect areas before, during and after each donation. Masks are required throughout the donation process.

Versiti requires you to wait 48 hours to donate blood after you receive the first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Please schedule your appointment for one of our upcoming blood drives, and encourage your friends and family to do the same:
