Drive for Life scores high for oncology services

The Drive to Beat Breast Cancer and A Round for Life Golf Classic combined efforts to form Beaumont Health’s Drive for Life Invitational—a new event designed to raise funding for oncology patient programs at Beaumont Hospitals, Royal Oak and Troy. As a member of the planning committee, I am pleased to announce that the event raised $400,000 for the centers – making it the most successful golf outing to-date.

More than 700 guests participated in the invitational to support programs and services at the Walter & Marilyn Wolpin Comprehensive Breast Care Center at Beaumont, Royal Oak and the Wilson Cancer Resource Center at Beaumont, Troy. Event organizers comprised of members from the previous events worked tirelessly to provide attendees with a two-venue event for golfers at Oakland Hills Country Club and a competitive bridge and canasta tournament for card players at Bloomfield Hills Country Club.

Thanks to these special events, our hospital has received great support. In 2017, Beaumont, Troy received $125,000 from the Round for Life Golf Classic. This year, our hospital received $200,000, which will be used in the following manner:

  • $100,000 for programs for survivorship/breast cancer patients relating to database, analysts, and tech equipment
  • $70,000 for new digital breast imaging Tomosynthesis systems
  • $30,000 towards the Annual Breast Surgery Fellow Training salary $30,000 towards the Annual Breast Surgery Fellow Training salary
