For Providers
Discharged patients can now receive outpatient CT scans

Based on physician feedback, a systemwide change was made last year for patients who could be discharged from an inpatient bed but remain admitted while waiting for an MRI study. Because of this change, a provider can determine if a patient can be discharged, still needing an MRI study. Effective July 1, this process has been expanded to include CT scans as well.

The process is the same for both. When scheduling a current inpatient for a future outpatient MRI or CT scan, create a new Orders Only encounter to ensure the appointment will not be attached to the current inpatient visit by following these steps.

The MRI/CT order automatically populates a work queue in the Access Center. The Access Center team contacts the patient to schedule outpatient MRI/CT following authorization guidelines. Patients will have their MRI or CT performed, based on their preference for location, date and time, following our PFCC culture.

The ordering doctor receives results and follows up with patient, per normal process.
