What inspired you to practice medicine?
"Growing up, I enjoyed doing routine maintenance and repairs on my dirt bikes and snowmobiles. Becoming a surgeon allowed me to do the same thing with my patients, fixing the problems with my hands."
Share something a patient said or did that has always stuck with you.
"After bariatric surgery, a patient said that she was able, for the first time, to get a full body hug from her daughter. Prior to surgery, her daughter’s arms would only partially go around her sides. Her eyes teared up; she was so thankful for her bariatric surgery outcome.
Medical procedures like bariatric surgery not only improve the patient's heath but every aspect of who they are, mentally, physically and emotionally."
What does resilience look like to you?
"Being able to face a difficult situation, finding a solution and implementing it to its conclusion."
